Themes include nineteenth-century legacies and end of the century crisis, artistic and cultural change, two world wars, a cold war, wars of decolonization, economic growth and decline, political unity, protest, and fragmentation. Focuses on political, cultural, and intellectual themes. PREREQUISITE: Eligible for ENGL& 101 or instructor's permission. Satisfies a social science requirement for AA degree.
