Surveys the history of Latin America from its indigenous, Iberian and African roots through contemporary affairs. Assesses the historical construction of racial, class and gender inequalities. Emphasizes the historical diversity of the region, but also examines common social, economic and political problems. PREREQUISITE: Eligible for ENGL& 101 or instructor's permission. Satisfies a social science requirement for AA degree.
