Introduction to the characteristics and activities of microorganisms with emphasis on the role of microorganisms in medicine, the environment and industry. Major topics include microbial classification, growth, metabolism, the role of microorganisms in disease, and immune responses of the host. Laboratory portion includes culture, identification and control of selected microorganisms. PREREQUISITE: AP 104, BIOL& 242, or BIOL& 212 or instructor's permission. Satisfies natural science or lab science requirement for AA degree. Formerly BIOL 210.
