This course is taken in a student's senior year. This course is designed to teach future teachers to create effective learning environments for students with varying levels of skill in attention, academics, and social areas in a variety of learning environments. This course will introduce ways of adapting materials, modifying curriculum, and adjusting teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students. Students in this course will learn about assistive technology, which is defined as any item, piece of equipment, or product that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. An array of computer-related assistive technology exists (hardware, software and peripherals) designed for use with students with various levels of disabilities. Students will learn about issues concerned with determining which technologies are appropriate for which students and whether a student with a disability requires assistive technology to benefit from special education. This course serves as a co-requisite for ED 449. Field requirement (12 hours). Prerequisites: ED 351, ED 360, ED 370, ED 448.
