Women have shaped space in diverse ways throughout American history. Some women constructed important monumental buildings while others influenced the vernacular landscape as patrons, historians, writers, craftswomen and educators. This course will introduce students to the history of American women and the built environment relative to the broader context of American women's history. Students will also examine issues surrounding the present-day preservation of womenconstructed or women-oriented spaces. 3 credits.
