Prerequisites: (HIST 05101 or HIST 05120) and HIST 05306 This course examines the period in terms of its dual character as the climax of Enlightenment and as the source of later disillusionment. The course emphasizes Europe and not any particular country, giving particular attention to the historiographical problem of the causes of World War I. This course may not be offered annually.
