Approaches to and varieties of sociological practice, including policy research, action research, evaluation research, strategic planning, and clinical intervention. An in-depth analysis of the problem-solving process and guided social change, and the role of sociological knowledge and insight. Examination of the values guiding the sociological practitioner and the ethical challenges associated with being a consultant, policy research or social activist; and the criteria used to define "successful" practice. Students will participatein a sociological practice project. 3 credits
