Prerequisites: SOC 08120 This course studies sociological theories of the origin and nature of religion. It includes the relationship of religion to family life, sexuality, ethnic identity, economic inequality and political power. Students also study conservative and radical religious movements in contemporary society and secularization and secular substitutes for religion. This course may not be offered annually.
