Augments the anthropology program's offerings in both archaeology and socio-cultural anthropology, and demonstrates the synergy of these approaches in the topical study of food. Through a combination of lecture, discussion, hands-on learning, and readings, this course introduces students to the basic modes of human subsistence identified by the anthropological tradition, explores the material and social challenges connected with these different subsistence strategies, and finishes by looking at current food based problems facing the world today.
