1 semester, 3 credits Focuses on the Renaissance outlook in Golden Age Spain as reflected in the literary genres of chivalric romance, picaresque and pastoral novels, and poetry of the mystic and lyric traditions. Major selections from Cervantes' Don Quijote and his shorter novels, the novelas ejemplares, will be read and analyzed from the perspective of the sociopolitical and theological debates of the 16th century. Prerequisites: SPN 321 and 322.
