Description of coastal areas, study of beach dynamics and coastal protection methods. Linearized gravity wave theory (celerity, velocity, pressure, wave groups, and wave energy). Wave transformations (reflection, refraction, diffraction, shoaling, and breaking). Waves and water-level prediction, design wave. Wave probability distributions and applied statistics. Nearshore ocean waves and currents. Littoral and sediment transport. (Lec. 3) Pre: MCE 354 and OCE 301 or permission of instructor.
