ASN 349 - Southeast Asia in World Politics

Institution:
William Paterson University of New Jersey
Subject:
Description:
Southeast Asia is a region of great diversity encompassing democracies and dictatorships; a city-state and a vast archipelago; rich states and poor; the world's most populous Muslim country, one of the largest Catholic nations and one of the newest nations (East Timor); and ancient civilizations. It is also a region of great economic and strategic importance: the scene of fast-growing states and of the United States' longest war. This course examines colonial legacies, nationalist and revolutionary movements, and big-power interests in order to understand the foreign policy of regional states and the role of external powers.
