Modern methods of synthesizing inorganic and organometallic compounds including electrolytic, high temperature and vacuumline preparations. The study of the prepared compounds using a variety of techniques including infra-red, visible, ultraviolet spectroscopies, nuclear magnetic resonance, chromatographic, x-ray analysis and electroanalytical methods of analysis. Equilibria of acid/base, redox and complexation reactions are emphasized. Development of analytical laboratory skills is stressed. (1 hr. lec./6 hr. lab.) Prerequisite: CHEM 4481.
