Careful examination of mathematical ideas behind the mathematics taught in grades K-8, and their history and applications to daily life. Intended primarily for future elementary- school teachers to provide them with a better understanding of the mathematics they will teach. This course will also be of value for any student who wants a better understanding of these ideas. Focus on understanding and exploring the mathematics behind computation through problem solving, projects, group explorations, use of manipulatives, and some use of technology. Topics include: number systems, measurement, probability, statistics, and geometry. Not open to freshmen. Prerequisite: Mathematics 050, passed with a grade of Cor higher, if required.
