Cultural origins of alternative/complementary therapies will be discussed. Perspectives of health and healing of different cultures will be examined with an emphasis on Eastern thought. Appropriate therapies for health promotion and specific illness contexts, potential risks vs. benefits, and ethical issues addressing treatment choices will be discussed. There will be an emphasis on choosing alternative/ complementary therapies that are supported by research as safe and effective.
