This course introduces the students to the study of pharmacology by surveying diseases of various body systems and the drugs being developed to treat them. Topics include basic pharmacological principles, classification of drugs used to treat human disease and their mechanisms of action and accompanying side effects. The revolutionary impact of developments in molecular genetics, genomics, and proteomics will be emphasized. Prerequisites: Permission of the instructor 3 credits
