1 semester, 4 credits A lecture-laboratory course covering the biology of microorganisms with emphasis on bacteria and viruses. Microbes are important research tools in many areas of cellular biology, as well as in microbiology per se. Lectures and laboratory exercises will be devoted to a survey of the microbial world, bacterial metabolism and growth, viruses, bacterial genetics, and host-parasite relationships as applied to man. Prerequisite: BIO 200.
