This class serves as a general introduction to the history of European art traditions, and as such, is appropriate preparation for students studying for the PRAXIS examinations in Art Education, although it is not limited in any way to preparation for that test, and serves as a general introduction to the history of art, accessible to anyone who has completed the Freshman Year's basic requirement. This course focuses on selected topics drawn from the history of Western art. Topics include examples of painting, sculpture, print making, and architecture from Ancient Greece, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the modern era. Individual works are studied in relation to their social, cultural, and institutional contexts.
