This course examines the development of biology as a science from the ancient world to the present. The course will examine unifying principles of biology such as genetic/evolutionary theory as central themes of modern biology. Representative organisms will be used to illustrate how organisms, using basic plans found widely in nature, are adapted to their environment. This course will emphasize biological science as a process for gaining information about the natural world using the techniques and understanding of 21st century science.
