This course provides an introduction to forests and their management on the local, national, and global scales. Field work is designed to familiarize students with basic forest sampling methods. Natural factors examined include basic ecosystem structure, nutrient cycles, succession, climate, fire, soils, water, and wildlife. Cultural factors include a review of management practices in tropical, temperate, and boreal forests, with special focus on deforestation and reforestation.
