This course serves as both a gateway course for students interested in pursuing upper level courses in East Asian studies, as well as a broadly conceived introduction to East Asian civilizations for students of different disciplines. This course will survey the social, intellectual, cultural, and political history of the major civilizations of Northeast and Southeast Asia from ancient times to the early modern era.
