Description:

This course is an exploration of theatrical production from the earliest origins of theater as ancient ritual to modern multi-million dollar Broadway productions. The focus of this course is to examine how social, economic, political and religious influences have shaped, enhanced or inhibited theatrical arts. The theatrical arts are a collaboration of energy, talent, inspiration and perspiration. Throughout history, those who desire to create, perform, impersonate, examine the human spirit, or question the human condition have been costumed, framed, viewed, criticized, applauded, censored and ex-communicated by both the meek and the powerful. This course will synthesize the many aspects of European and American cultures and theatrical production. The course will include styles and techniques of theatrical production in Asia. This course will include the discussion of theatrical literature written during different historical periods; however, the focus of this course is understanding the cultural conditions that molded different theatrical styles. 0.000 TO 4.000 Credit Hours 0.000 TO 4.000 Lecture hours Levels: Undergraduate Schedule Types: Lecture Contemporary Arts College Theater Department Course Attributes: GE-TOPICS ARTS AND HUMANITIES
