Fulfills a course requirement in the Modern Language Core ConcentrationPrerequisite: Successful completion (C-or higher) of Intermediate II Coursein the same language or placement by examination.Literary Tradition I provides a chronological survey of literature inthe respective language from around 800 AD to 1750 AD. The mostsignificant works of literature, ranging from early writings in medievalepics to lyrical poetry, early novels, and dramas will be introduced anddiscussed. Emphasis is placed on the tools of analysis specific to literarystudies and criticism in modern language study. Reading, discussing andwriting about significant texts affords understanding of literature andreinforcement of advanced language skills.
