Fulfills a course requirement in the Modern Language Core ConcentrationPrerequisite: Successful completion (C-or higher) of Intermediate II Coursein the same language or placement by examination.Literary Tradition I provides a chronological survey of literaturein the respective language from around 800 AD to 1750 AD. Themost significant works of literature, ranging from early writingsin medieval epics to lyrical poetry, early novels, and dramas willbe introduced and discussed. Emphasis is placed on the tools ofanalysis specific to literary studies and criticism in modern languagestudy. Reading, discussing and writing about significant texts affordsunderstanding of literature and reinforcement of advanced languageskills.
