This introductory course focuses on the established fundamental principles common to all known forms of life. Topics include the origin of life forms (abiogenesis) on this planet and the evolution and operation (metabolism and self-perpetuation) of such life forms at various levels of biological organization. Comprehension of the principles, including "complementarity between structure and function," is emphasized throughout. The course is designed as a science elective for business, humanities, and social science students. Three class hours; three laboratory hours. Students may not receive credit for both this course and BIOL 100.
