Students read imaginative, critical, and political works by writers such as Johnson, Boswell, Goldsmith, Radcliffe, Burke, Burney, Inchwald, Sterne, Burns, and Wollstonecraft. The class examines issues such as sentimentalism, manners, revolution, and the emergence of the novel. Prerequisite: ENG 200
