Prerequisite: Three 200-level SPA courses This course proposes a thorough, chronological study of the cultures and societies of Spanish America, focusing on their social, political, intellectual, and artistic aspects. It gives students the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of (a) the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures studied; (b) the relationship between the products and perspectives of the cultures studied; and (c) the concept of culture through comparisons of the cultures studied and their own. In the process, students will reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines through the foreign language, acquiring information and recognizing the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the foreign language and its cultures.
