Prerequisite: FRE 211 or permission of instructor This course provides an introductory survey of French literature from the Middle Ages to the 21st Century. Major works are read in complete form or excerpts and placed in their historical and cultural contexts. Emphasis is placed on a variety of close reading techniques and on the improvement of speaking and writing skills. Fundamental approaches to literary interpretation will be introduced.
