ARTV 1161 and ARTV 1162 or Permission of Instructor. Arts course (A). Introduction to oil painting, emphasizing the application of color theory to observation; color mixing in relation to the changing color of light, and color versus drawing space. Color harmony and invention; composition, imagination, abstraction and expression are explored. Transitions in the function of painting, especially from public to private, through history are discussed in slide lectures and critiques. Offered each semester.
