LITT 2123. (Cross-listed LITT 3212.) A study of nine plays, three tragedies by Sophocles, a tragedy and two comedies (one light, one dark) by William Shakespeare, and three comedies by George Bernard Shaw. We will consider the canons for tragedy and comedy, perhaps with some additional dramas for examples, and the influence of their times on the three playwrights, separated by over two millennia.
