Not open to freshmen. Historical consciousness course. (H) Survey of theatre history and dramatic literature from classical Greece through the eighteenth century with an emphasis on structural and stylistic development. Significant plays from representative periods will be studied within relevant socio-cultural contexts. Particular attention is given to classicism, medieval theatre, neo- and popular classicism, commedia dell'arte and baroque theatre. Faculty: M.
