International/multicultural course (I). This course begins with a discussion of key ideas, theories, and concepts in the comparative study of politics. We then proceed with a regional perspective, examining and discussing modes of governance, social institutions, political structures, and conflicts in Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. As we examine each of these regions, and selected countries within the regions, social, political, historical, and economic differences and similarities will be highlighted with an eye toward forming a broader sense of how these factors shape ethnic conflict, human rights, social struggle, economic development, and other key issues.
