Applied Biostatistics (CSIS 1206). recommended. Historical consciousness course (H). Introduces fundamental concepts of epidemiology, with special emphasis on the historical development and application of preventive stategies in public health. Basic descriptive methods, measurements, and statistics are applied to the study of diseases and health events in order to better understand their distributions and determinants. Topics include dynamics of disease transmission, measures of morbidity and mortality, assessing reliabilty and validity, expressing the natural history of disease and prognosis, randomized clinical trials and other study designs and methods to identify the causes of disease, and ethical, professional and policy considerations.
