Health communication is an emerging specialty in the field of communications. This course is designed to provide a broad introduction to human communication in health care contexts. This course will focus on the use of communication strategies to inform and influence individual and community decisions regarding health. The seminar will focus on the following contexts of health: the multidimensional nature of health communication; understanding empirical research in health communications; behavioral theories in health communication; rhetorical theories in health communications; legal and ethical concerns in health communications; and the communication of risk and uncertainty.
