4 Credits Prerequisite: EDU2001, EDU2002, EDP 3013 and Admissions to the Education Department Note: Required course for Teacher of Disabilities Certification The purpose of this course is to equip students with a variety of research-based strategies and models of discipline to address issues of behavior management in the classroom. The course will consider the role of behavior management in learning and in instruction. Behavior management theory and technique is applied to the classroom environment, with an emphasis on working with challenging behavior and children with special needs. Social skills training is a topic of study. Students acquire both the knowledge and the language to effectively answer the inevitable interview questions about behavior management, and are able to apply these skills in the classroom.
