Civilizations I is an interdisciplinary course that traces the development of civilizations with a global perspective from ancient times through the Middle Ages. It examines the heritage of ideas, values, and artistic expressions that shape cultural tradition. Civilizations I explores the human experience through the synthesizing disciplines of history, philosophy, literature, and the arts. This course is designed to help students develop an awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on the present and to appreciate the achievements of the collective human experience. The course explores various cultures in order to understand human diversity as well as to understand oneself. Prerequisite: ENGL 101 English Composition I
