This course is designed to acquaint students with the following areas: (1) the features and forms of persuasion most commonly observable in the media; (2) the rhetorical/critical perspectives on the power of representation, particularly in television content; and (3) the key controversial issues related to news media as it relates to social issues and political economy. We will also examine and discuss how a theoretical framework aids a critical analysis of mediated appeals embedded in the world that surrounds us.
