What kind of information do we get from print and electronic media about the world and our own society Do they tell us what we need to know to make informed decisions about world and domestic issues This course explores the ways in which the ownership and structure of media in the U.S. and internationally contribute to the coverage of domestic and global issues. Particular attention will be given to the relationship of the growing diversity (racially, ethnically, and by gender), and stratification (rich and poor) in U.S. society to the global crisis of poverty, the environment, racism, and social disintegration.
