This course will examine the evolution of warfare since the development of the nation-state in the late 18th century. It will familiarize students with the structures of militaries and their relationships to governments. It will address the major technological changes in conflict, as well as the changes in warfighting that reflect changed attitudes of belligerent nations toward war itself.
