Included will be discussions of the maturing of an industrial economy, and expansion in the west and overseas. The role of the United States as a world power and the growth of presidential power will be shaped and sometimes challenged by movements designed to expand democratic institutions and human rights. Included will be discussions of African Americans, native Americans, and women.
