CHEM 2130. Pericyclic reactions focusing on theory and mechanism of cycloaddition reactions, electrocyclic reactions, sigmatropic rearrangements, ene reactions; Structure determination using NMR spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry, IR spectroscopy and UV-Visible spectroscopy; Introduction to variable temperature NMR spectroscopy, Retrosynthetic analysis, natural products synthesis, protecting groups in organic synthesis, synthetic methodology; dynamic stereochemistry and mechanistic organic chemistry including reactions involving reactive intermediates such as carbenes and nitrenes; Introduction to medicinal chemistry, Pharmacophores, Lipinski's rule of five and bioavailability, rational drug design, organic chemistry of drug action.
