Prerequisites: AAE 273 and AAE 373. A minimum grade of C+ is required in all art education courses and a minimum grade of C is required in all other major courses. This third course in the professional art education sequence is designed to provide students with experiences and knowledge that will guide their future success as secondary (6-12) art educators. Examining contemporary issues, artists, and big ideas, this course examines theoretical, curricular, and pedagogical aspects relevant to secondary art education. Other topics of investigation include unit and lesson planning, assessment, art criticism, aesthetics, human development, special education, and effective teaching strategies in the secondary classroom. The course explores areas of inquiry necessary to create a firm foundation in art education through readings, discussions, in-class activities, films, peer teaching, artmaking and visual/written assignments.
