This course introduces the beginning nursing student to the role of the professional nurse. An overview of the nursing profession's his-torical development, evolution of the health care system, and the legal and ethical prin-ciples that direct professional nursing practice are discussed. The student will be introduced to the nursing process and the importance of meeting the individual's needs for health maintenance, health promotion and disease prevention. In this course the student will ex-plore professional concepts and strategies that influence self-awareness, critical thinking, mo-tivation, and cultural competence. Selected philosophies and psychosocial concepts are also explored. Students will also be exposed to the importance of life long learning. Limited to BSN and Nursing Pathway students
