LandscapeTaking impressionism and romanticism as precedents, this course is for those who want to explore their own responses to the landscape. Working outdoors with a variety of media (watercolor, oil, pastel, charcoal, etc.), we will explore issues that have challenged the great landscape painters of all time. Issues such as space, color, light, and composition will be addressed in depth. Subjective responses to the landscape will also be explored such as content, metaphor, personal iconography, and mood. Ultimately, the deeper ramifications of the role of humankind to nature will be addressed through readings and discussions. One 3 hour class meeting per week3 credits Summer only
