Topics include the economic, political, social, and cultural dynamics between the United States and its colonies, both formal and informal. The focus of any one particular semester might be on a single location, such as the American Southwest, Hawaii, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, or Iraq. Alternatively, the course could take a comparative approach to these imperialist projects.
