3 credits Students will increase their competence in the critical reading of challenging collegelevel texts that engage significant ideas and in writing effective essays that advance a clear and meaningful thesis while demonstrating understanding of those texts. The second of the department's three-course composition sequence, CMP-120 must be taken by students who have successfully completed CMP-115 or who have attained a 530 or above on the writing section and 500 or above on the critical reaading section of the SAT or a score of 4 or above on the English department placement test.
