Topics covered include: U.S. relations with the Chinese Nationalist and Communist governments; Sino-American detente; diplomatic normalization of the Sino-American relationship; relations with Taiwan and Hong Kong; trade and human rights issues; the impact of Tiananmen on America's relations with China; and new challenges of the 21st century. 3 credits
