1 semester, 3 credits This course will examine slavery as a cause of the Civil War, emancipation, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, black intellectuals and black history, the migration of African Americans from the South, the emergence of the civil rights movement, desegregation, the role of Martin Luther King, the Black Power movement, the persistence of racism, and affirmative action programs.
