This course is offered to students seeking early childhood teaching certification. It focuses on how literacy begins and develops in infancy through grade three, addressing the influences of the home as well as the school. Emergent literacy and the role of the home, parents, and day care programs are analyzed in depth. In addition, classroom organization, special learning needs, diagnosis, and evaluation techniques are addressed. Prerequisite: LTED 270 Emerging Literacy at Home and School
