LANG 3240 and LANG 3241. Permission of Instructor required. The practice of translating from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English is an excellent way to master syntax, grammar structures and word usage in both languages. The comparative study of texts translated by Gregory Rabassa, Juan Flores, Rosario Ferre, Cynthia Steele, Alistair Reed and Edith Grossman, among others, will serve as models for this craft. This course will cover some translation theories that have contributed to the development of this art form. The study, interpretation and translation of fragments from literary pieces will also help differentiate between literal and free translations. Faculty: A.
